Compost

In 1992 the State of Minnesota banned disposal of lawn clippings and leaves in landfills. This means that yard waste must be collected by a designated truck, which is routed seperately and disposes the waste at a composting facility. You are not allowed to put grass or leaves in with your household trash.

Compost pickup for the 2008 season will begin the week of April 14th and ends the week of November 10th

 COMPOST PICKUP REQUIREMENTS

Tennis Sanitation offers curbside compost collection. Approved yard waste for curbside pickup includes: leaves, grass clippings, dead flowers or plants, wood chips, hedge clippings, pine needles.  There is a per-bag fee for compost pickup at the curb. Your compost must be placed in bio-degradeable bags that can be purchased at your local Target, Home Depot, Menards, Fleet Farm, Sams Club and some grocery stores. We require you to call our office at least 1 day before your normal trash pick-up day so the compost truck can be scheduled to stop by your house.

SEASONAL WEEKLY COMPOST PROGRAM

If you are interested in our seasonal Compost Program, please call our office for pricing and information.

***Why Not Try Grasscycling***

Grasscycling is leaving your grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. The grass decomposes and releases valuable nutrients into the soil. This type of recycling has many other benefits, such as serving as a food source to your lawn’s bacteria, which helps decompose unwanted thatch. It also acts as a mulch that helps in conserving soil moisture and temperature.Grasscycling is the simple practice of leaving grass clippings on the lawn when mowing. Once cut, grass clippings first dehydrate, then decompose, quickly disappearing from view.

Grasscycling --

  • Encourages a healthier lawn by returning nutrients to the soil beneath the lawn.
  • Reduces work because you don't have to bag or rake and dispose of your clippings.
  • Saves you money because you don’t have to pay for disposal of your clippings.
  • Benefits the environment by naturally recycling the clippings.

Simply put, grasscycling is good for your lawn and can help you reduce waste.
